This beautiful and fascinating stone is relatively unknown, but don't let that put you off! Named after the area in Spain in which it was first found, Andalusite comes in a variety of body colours. However, its most distinguishing characteristic is its eye-visible pleochroism, so pronounced that it can be observed through the crown. In fact, unlike most other pleochroic stones, the different colours can be seen simultaneously, creating a mosaic of hues. Body colours range from yellowish green to brownish orange; the pleochroic tones can be reds, greens and oranges; lovely soft earth tones. The stones that I have are in soft tones of greens and pinkish orange, and you can see the pleochroism yourself in the pictures.
