Black Spinel in a selection of freeform shapes and sizes, faceted in a rose cut on one side with a table on the other. This is pure black, with a high polish that will look very striking either in its own right or as a complement to other stones. Black spinel is hard - Mohs scale 8 - with high reflectance and no cleavage, so makes a durable and versatile gem. Black spinel is also rare these days in that it is not routinely treated. Main sources are Australia and Thailand. Set these stones either way up, in a window setting or prong setting, or flat side down in a bezel.
